She had no interest in breakfast - her tummy and neck were hurting all morning. Physical therapist worked with her for 30 minutes this morning and another 30 this afternoon and had her trying to stand up... to a walker and stay standing (with great assistance) for 10 seconds. This was very difficult but Bella kept trying. We played her anthem to encourage her to keep going. She is really working on improving her upper body strength since her legs are not yet able to hold her up.
Occupational therapist worked with her for 45 minutes this morning and 15 this afternoon. The first part of the morning session went well. Bella threw a soccer ball overhead and then used a dowel to bat (with two hands) a playground ball away. The OT also had Bella doing crunches and throwing bean bags at cones at the top of every crunch. Bella pushed herself a little too hard in that OT session and she crashed hard. She ate lunch well but has been increasingly sad all day. We had a good cry after her afternoon PT session and then Grandma Diane cheered her up for a minute with a chick-fil-a milkshake.
I had a near breakdown because the operations director told me they were not allowing visitors due to a GI bug that had infected the hospital several weeks ago. It's a long story but let me just say that I am not at all impressed with BOCH so far. We were told this is the best place but I will be surprised if that's really the case. I'll be researching other options - not sure if there are any.
Bella is napping now. Brody & Faith are heading here with Brian's mom. I hope that will cheer us all up. I have negotiated to allow family to visit with her in the common areas downstairs. And the director is expecting the visitor ban to be lifted by Saturday.
Oh and the food here is not very good so we'll be figuring out what we can to keep us both fed.
My work has been extremely understanding so far but as I near the end of week 2 out of the office, I'll have to either go back to work or apply for FMLA. Neither is an easy decision.
Faith, Brody and Brian's mom visited this evening. Bella was still very down for a while but she eventually perked up and enjoyed their visit. Brody drew a picture for Bella's room and Faith, Bella and the child life worker made a pillow together.
I'm pushing hard to get Bella released to an intensive outpatient program this weekend. We'll see if the doctors and insurance will listen to me.
